|Checkr||SAN FRANCISCO, CA|
Checkr is one of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” kind of companies that’s currently crushing it.
Let’s say Uber is starting up in a new city and 3k people apply to be Uber drivers. Well, first they need to background check these people before letting them drive precious cargo around (AKA, you).
But doing 3k background checks the old school way takes foooorrrrreeeeeeevvvvvveeeerrrrrrrr.
That’s where Checkr comes in. They use software and AI to automate this process so they can check thousands of people at a time:
This is super useful for very large enterprises that need to check gigantic swaths of people across their organization:
- Maintenance people
- Childcare providers
- Instacart shoppers
- … you get the point.
Checkr is making what used to be a horrifically boring, expensive, and time-consuming task into a simple piece of software that takes care of it all. It even ties into customers apps, which makes it a very “sticky” product.
Much drivers. Many checks. Very background.
There’s been a ton of investment in Checkr from a host of large organizations like T. Rowe Price, Y Combinator, and Khosla Ventures.
And, they’re also extremely well funded after a $100m cash infusion in April 2018. Here’s all their funding rounds (they got BIG very fast since all these gig economy companies desperately need this service):
- Seed: $120k
- Series A: $9m
- Series B: $40m
- Series C: $100m
This is a super fast-growing company that’s been set on fire by the gig economy. Companies like Uber, Instacart and more rely on Checkr for instantaneous background checks.
What we always dig about these young-yet-fast-growing companies is the possible upward opportunity.
Since Checkr is growing fast, this can mean big opportunities for early employees. Checkr’s office is right in the Financial District of San Francisco, which is a pretty cool hotbed of startup activity to be around.
While Checkr is growing super fast, it’s still an enterprise software company. If you’re looking to “change the world” in a super meaningful way, we can understand some people thinking Checkr won’t help them do that.
Who’s it for:
Someone who wants the fast-moving pace of a startup, but with much more job security since Checkr is already successful (10k+ customers including Airbnb, Instacart, Uber, Lyft, and more). Plus, it’s really well funded.
Elevator pitch to your uncle:
“Hey Cousin Janice! I work for Checkr now in San Francisco. You know how Uber hires thousands of drivers to pick people up? Well, they legally have to background check all these people so they don’t hired shady people to chauffeur you around, and that can take months.
Checkr makes software that automates background checks, so these huge companies don’t have to worry about it. We help keep people safe.”
