On Tuesday, Elon Musk reportedly sent two emails to staff outlining how every Tesla employee must work at least 40 hours a week at a physical Tesla office.

Musk says screw remote jobs

“If you don’t show up, we will assume you have resigned,” the email reads. “The more senior you are, the more visible must be your presence.”

Had he not “lived in the factory so much,” Musk claims, “Tesla would long ago have gone bankrupt.”

  • In one email, Musk writes that if there are any “particularly exceptional contributors” unable to work in-office, he would review those cases directly. (We’d love to see who has the gumption to pitch him on that.)

Interestingly, the OG auto pioneer, Henry Ford, cut working days from six to five, and helped popularize the 40-hour workweek back in 1926.
