A novel way to find love, a famous hat, and more

$2.3m and $2.8m: How much Twisters and Deadpool & Wolverine took in at 4DX theaters, respectively, on their opening weekends, marking the two biggest openings for such screens. As previously reported, 4DX adds oomph to the movie-going experience with effects including moving seats, scents, wind, and “rain.” A Variety reporter who enjoyed a Twisters screening noted that effects included roller coaster-esque tornado sequences and a gentle mist when Glen Powell appeared in a wet T-shirt.

444: Gaming consoles that Ibrahim Al-Nasser, a Saudi game collector, hooked up to a single TV — now the Guinness World Record for such a feat. Al-Nasser said he was driven by the desire to not have to constantly plug and unplug consoles to play his massive collection of games. It’s a pretty impressive feat, not just because that’s a lot of consoles, but because his organization and cable management game is on point. BTW, he says his favorite console will always be Sega Genesis.

$140: Price that Xiaotu, a 23-year-old Chinese man, paid to place an ad on a 21-by-5.5-foot electronic billboard at his nearest subway stop for five days. It was Xiaotu’s attempt to find a romantic partner, and featured photos, personal info, and a QR code to add him on WeChat. Xiaotu gained 200 new friends, though it’s unclear if any of them are his soulmate. The story represents a growing trend in China where metro systems are looking to bump revenue and pay off debt by allowing people to purchase personal ads.

$630k: Price paid at auction for a fedora Harrison Ford wore as Indiana Jones in The Temple of Doom. The Herbert Johnson Hat Co. and the film’s costume designers, Anthony Powell and Joanna Johnston, designed this particular hat, which differs slightly from Indy’s hat in the previous film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Its previous owner, and wearer, was the late Dean Ferrandini, Ford’s stuntman.
